How a UA professor uses student-ID card data to help predict dropouts

With swipes of their student IDs, freshmen at the University of Arizona share massive amounts of data with the university.

Until recently, much of that data went unused.

Then a University of Arizona professor dipped into it to research the locations, social circles, habits and routines of freshmen.

Sudha Ram believes the information could be used to try to help lower dropout rates.
